Secondary Battery Systems...

So you've decided you need a secondary battery system for your car, work vehicle or 4x4?

You've come to the right place! At the centre of every great secondary battery system, there's an Elektratech lithium battery.

Secondary battery systems are required to power all those extra accessories you want to add to your car, work vehicle or 4x4. Your car battery simply isn't designed to take the extra load that these accessories demand and you'll be left stranded on the side of the road or worse, the bush, if you don't set these things up right!

But how does all the stuff work and what will you need? Well, let's go through some of the basics of a secondary battery system.

A standard secondary battery system comprises of  the following items...

  1. Alternator
  2. Car Battery
  3. DC-DC Charger
  4. Elektratech lithium battery
  5. Solar Controller (optional)
  6. Solar Panel (optional)
  7. Your Accessories

Alternator - The alternator is responsible for keeping your vehicle's battery charged. As your engine runs, it generates power and keeps your vehicle battery topped up.

Car Battery - The car battery stores all of the energy your alternator produces and provides your vehicle with all the power it needs to run its engine, lights and accessories.

DC-DC Charger - A DC-DC Charger is required on secondary battery systems. It takes its power from your car battery and converts it to the perfect voltage to charge your secondary battery. You see, batteries like to be charged a specific way and that is the job of a good DC-DC Charger. It will provide your lithium battery with the correct current and voltage it needs to stay charged and healthy. We like Victron Energy DC-DC Chargers. They are the best in the market and come with a 5-year warranty.

Solar Controllers & Panels - Adding solar to your system is a great way to stay fully charged and off grid for longer. A solar MPPT controller will be able to take the power that is coming from your solar panel and convert it to the perfect voltage and current that your lithium battery needs to stay charged and healthy.

Hopefully now this is all starting to make sense...
